St Lucia and Sint Maarten

Today is really January 4, 2008 I have discovered that the time is taken from whatever satellite we are connected through and they are several hours ahead of us – I do know what day it is but sometimes the post shows that it is the next day.  Yesterday the 3rd we spent in St Lucia and had a bit of a not wonderful shoe excursion.  I have come to the conclusion that I can get of a boat and take a taxi and have a better tour and shore excursion than I can through the cruise line – not just Celebrity that I am on but on many others that I have been on.  I have been to St Lucia before but did not see much of it and wanted to yesterday unfortunately we ended up not seeing anything new and having difficulty while doing that.  Today on Sint Maarten we elected to spend the day at the beach.  I have been to this island several times and have seen about as much as you can see so it was good to have a day at the beach.  We will spend the next two days at sea playing trivia, music trivia and sitting by the pool and reading a lot.  Joe is on his third book so this has been relaxing for him, I am still reading my first that is 983 pages long so if I can finish it I will be happy.    We are dining later tonight at Ocean Liners the speciality restaurant so I will report on that tomorrow.

Barbados

January 3, 2008 on 5:18 am | In Celebrity Cruise, Cruises, travel | No Comments

Toady we were at the eastern most island of the Caribbean, Barbados.  One of the better Islands in the Caribbean, Tiger Woods was married here and has a house this was one of the islands that Princess Diana used to come to.  It has a strong history and was once a British Colony and reminds me a little of Bermuda.  We did a tour and saw a distillery, old sugar plantation house (wall 13 feet thick) and a mahogany factory, not  for furniture but for hand made pieces and decorative items.    Returned to the ship around noon and elected to spend the remainder of the day at the pool.  Just finished dinner and are off to see the show a combination of singer and the acrobatic couple we have seen before.   Tomorrow we are going to St Lucia and doing a tour to various artists on the island.

Day at Sea

January 2, 2008 on 12:56 am | In Celebrity Cruise, Cruises, travel | No Comments

Today the start of 2008 and we have spent it relaxing at sea.  Last night our gala evening bringing in the new year was spent in Michael’s Club following a spectacular show in the Celebrity Theater.  The lead singer was on the search for the starts of Grease the Broadway play,  he has a spectacular voice and it really great to hear and see his performance.  There also was a couple performing  on what I can only call drapes – similar to a Cirque type of performance.  Our evening ended in Michael’s club with Perry leading the way in celebration and song.  Today after a bit of sleeping in we have been poolside all day but made a few stops at trivia and name that tune contest.  There was a brief period of rain that the captain quickly got us through and then sunshine the rest of the day.  Today is informal and we expect a quiet night although I might try my luck in the casino again.  I came in 4th in the blackjack tournament – no money of course.  We have signed up for the Luggage valet that Celebrity is now offering and donot have to worry about picking up our suitcase in the customs shed.  We will put them out the last night and see them the next day hopefully in Cleveland.  For now we are sailing for Barbados.

New Years Eve

December 31, 2007 on 10:24 pm | In Celebrity Cruise, Cruises, travel | No Comments

We would like to wish everybody a Happy New Year and  a prosperous new year in 2008.  We just returned from Charlotte Amalie on St Thomas.   It is a very warm sunny day and we have decided to rest by the pool for the next several hours before celebrating this evening.  Spent last night with some of the group again listening to the music and comedy of Perry Grant piano player extraordinaire!  Smooth sailing from Puerto Rico got my hair cut in the beauty shop this am before departing the ship.  Tonight is of course a formal night with a gala celebration outside on the pool deck.  Something different than we normally do.  so Happy New Year to all!!!!!

Gala Evening

December 30, 2007 on 10:16 pm | In Celebrity Cruise, Cruises, travel | No Comments

Last evening was the first of 3 formal nights on this cruise.  The ship always seem so much more festive when everyone is dressed in their finest.  Following a wonderful dinner we attended the Toast with the Captain one of the traditions of sailing the high seas.  We then were treated to a wonderful show by the singers and dancers highlighting many Broadway shows.  Their performances are really very good and entertaining.  Joe and I then stopped in the Michael’s Club for a nightcap and were delightfully entertained by Perry Grant with songs for the past and a name that tune trivia contest.  Great Fun and a pleasant way to spend the evening.  We have had a lazy morning and are shortly to arrive in San Juan.   We don’t intend to do much but take a tour of the Bacardi factory and perhaps sample a bit of rum.  The seas are a bit choppy and it is very windy on deck but the sun is finally shinning and it is great just to lay back and relax as we sail along.

On the seas

December 29, 2007 on 11:46 pm | In Celebrity Cruise, Cruises, travel | No Comments

Hello out there – as promised I am writing to let you know  how the cruise is going.  We sailed yesterday from Ft Lauderdale at 430PM and had a smooth night.  I always finding sleeping on a cruise ship to be very peaceful with the gentle rocking of the ship.  We are now heading for San Juan and will arrive tomorrow afternoon.  Joe and I plan on visiting the Bacardi Factory to taste some of the local spirits as well as a walk around the old town.  The welcome show last night was quite good with a large group of singers and dancers.  A few stops in the casino have not netted me any gains but I will keep trying.  The weather is beautiful hot in the low 80’s but with a brisk wind on deck.  The ship the Constellation a Celebrity Cruise Ship is lovely decorated in warm colors with beautiful decor.  Joe attended a talk presented on the upcoming national election and the negative an positive ads that we will be subjected to over the next 9 months.   Look for more information tomorrow after our stop in San Juan.
