Norwegian Spirit
September 30, 2009 on 3:29 pm | In Cruises | No CommentsToday is a Day at sea and we are having a relaxing day sailing the St Lawrence Seaway.
The water is calm and the sun is shining. Following our day in Sydeny last night had a great evening with a sing-a-long in Henry’s Pub, then listenting to some great music in the Champagne Bar – topped the evening off with a bit of time in the Casino – won a little. After having been in Las Vegas and not won anything I have decided the only place I can win at the tables is on cruise ships. As I write this the bingo ‘cruise giveaway’ is taking place and people are flocking to the room that is right next door. Probably will not have any more to say about this cruise till I get home – running out tof minutes.

September 29, 2009 on 1:58 pm | In Cruises | No CommentsWe are in Sydney today – not Australia but Nova Scotia. Scenery is just beautiful and there some leaves beginning to turn – but we are told about mid October is peak up here. Alexander Gram Bell summered up here and has a beautiful home and there is a musuem. We again did not take a tour but arranged to be with a driver guide fo less than the same thing would have cost us off the cruise ship. Have to go as there is a local group putting on a show.

September 28, 2009 on 7:03 pm | In Cruises | No CommentsSpent the day in Halifax Nova Scotia which is just a wonderful city full of friendly helpful people. We had a tour of the city and then out to Peggy’s Cove a very quaint small maybe tiny would be a better word Lobster Village built on Granit Rocks. It has a great light house and since the weather was not wonderful we got to see the Atlantic crashing over the rocks. The light house sits atop the hightest point (rock) in the town right at the edge of the land. Returned to town and had another lobster that’s lobster every day for the past three. Maybe I have had enough for a while. The best thing that has happened from the cruise line is this afternoon just before we sailed they had dancers and a bag piper in to entertain us with Scotish dancing – a real treat but the room they had it in was too small and jam packed with people. Food has been soso nothing to rave about on the cruise. Service is just awful and the staff thinks that if they smile and “good moring madame” that covers everything. Being on this cruise as a travel agent supposedly to learn how to appreciate sell them has not and is not working. We found out tonight that people in a cabin ranked higher than ours are paying less than we are for the cruise – this is special? I don’t think so!
The best thing I can say about this cruise is the ports of call and we are really enjoying them. Our tour guide to day was excellent very informative and helpful.
It appears that it is going to be a rough night as they have the little bags out in the corridors – not a good sign!

September 27, 2009 on 4:03 pm | In Cruises | No CommentsSeptember 26, As I write this we are sailing out of Saint John, New Brunswick Canada. The weather the past 2 days has been rather cold and damp but we just grin and bear it. Yesterday we spent the day in Bar Harbour. We did not make it to the restaurant I wanted to go to but we did get to a restaurant in town and had a wonderful Lobster Boil for 15.99 – whole lobster, french fries, coleslaw and a slice of fresh blueberry pie. We also had root beer made in Bar Harbour and a blueberry soda made by the same company. Somethig a little different. No organized tour here we just walked around and looked at the sights after our Lobster fest.
Today in Saint John we had a 5 hour tour booked through Shore Trips. This was my first time to try them and it was definitely a quality tour – 9 people in a smaller type bus and our driver and guide. Our guide was an elementary school retired teacher and principal and gave us a wonderful tour with many interesting stories. We also saw the Bay of Fundy and the amazing 25 foot tides we saw it with the tide out and boats sitting on the ocean bottom on concret blocks. When the tide comes in they just float to the top. Just amazing. We also saw early in the day the area that has the reverse flow of the river it was flowing backwards being pushed by the outgoing tide. When the tide is done going out and holding back the river the water flows rapidly back and creats rapids that they ride jet boats through. We also saw that later in the day. All in all a good day. When we came back to the boat and inspite of the cold spent some time in the hot tub – very relaxing.
Norwegian Cruise Line – Norwegian Spirit
September 26, 2009 on 8:52 am | In Cruises | No CommentsThis has been very interesting getting on board and our first day of the cruise. It has been several years since I have been on this line so I thought it would be good to try it out. I have only been on board less thast 24 hours and I am extremely disappointed with most everything. It has felt that since the moment we stepped on board we have been nickled and dimed to death. If you want to do anything I guarantee it will cost you money. They now charge to dine at all the specialty restaurants and haven eaten a some of them previously they are not the “special dinning experience” one would expect. On arrival on board the centrum area if filled with assoted ships services people hawking their wares – not what one would expect or want on a cruise. I have heard several passengers commenting on this fact. We will see how the rest of the cruise goes. Today we are in Bar Harbour Maime. Not doing a shore excursion but going to the Trenton Bridge Lobster House for Lobster! I’ll let you know how it was tomorrow.
Boston
September 26, 2009 on 8:41 am | In travel | No CommentsWe arrived early in Boston and had the whole day to walk the freedom trail and see the sights. We took a trolley tour – hop on hop off that allowed us to get off in the north end and walk around the area, see and smell the wonderful pastries and Itlaian food at all the restaurants but we went to Legal Seafood for lunch and had of couse the wonderful clam chowder they have with a salad. If you’ve never had the chowder at Legal seafood it is terrific.
Had dinner with friends tonight at Todd English’s restaurant Kingfish Hall at Faneuil Hall Market Place wonderful meal. On to our cruise tomorrow.
Las Vegas
September 18, 2009 on 2:59 pm | In travel | No CommentsJust back from the ASTA convention in Las Vegas. Haven’t been to Vegas in a few years it is such a ever growing always on the move kind of place. since it has been a few years it was good to get back makes it easier to recommend. Stayed at the Flamingo and was plesantly surprised room was great and clean but a lot of the public areas are not at all clean (the reduction in staff would be the problem). Flamingo is certainly in the center of things make getting around easy. Had an event at Towne Square at the far end of the strip – seemed to have a lot of nice shops and restaurants and bars. Attended another event at the Mix at The Hotel at Mandalya Bay this was fantastic. The views from 64 floors up are spectacular just remember that prices go along with the setting.
We are off on a New England/Canada cruise next week so look for postings as we travel the coast starting 25SEP
