International Travel Information

January 14, 2009 on 9:29 am | In travel | No Comments

I want to begin to alert everybody I can regarding the plans for the “Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative”.  If you are planning ANY travel outside the country next year now is the time to make sure you have the correct travel documents.  Beginning June 1, 2009 US citizens returning from Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, or Bermuda by land or sea will no longer be able to use a driver’s license or birth certificate.  Starting June 1, 2009, travelers will need to prove both citizenship and identity using one document.  There are different options available: a US Passport, a Passport Card (new), an Enhanced Driver’s License (from those states that offer one), or a Trusted Traveler Program Card  (NEXUS, SENTRI, or FAST)  For more information or to apply for a passport or passport card visit www.travel.state.gov .  I cannot stress the importance of planning ahead as you make travel plans.  If you remember the long period of time it took when the use of passports became required for all international air travel.  Many people were caught unawares and had to cancel their travel plans and lost money because of it.  Plan now if you want to travel internationally.  This information was correct at time of posting

Punta Cana

January 14, 2009 on 9:14 am | In Beach Vacations | No Comments

At this early start to the new year we are traveling with a group to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic for some relaxation and fun and sun.  We are staying at the Iberostar Punta Cana part of the Iberostar complex.  The Hotel is one half/side of a double hotel complex and is quite extensive as to grounds and facilities.  The food is really spectacular even in the buffets.  An extensive pool area and wonderful beach.  There are activities during the day and entertainment every night.  Weather is about 85 with a wonderful breeze – the waves can get rough when the wind is high.  This hotel is not far from the airport and very easy to get around.  We have not been off property and probably will not go anywhere this week just h appy to lay back soak up the sun and relax.    There are many different nationalities staying here but all are blended well.
